Menahga was platted in 1891, and named after the Ojibwe language word meaning "there are (many) blueberries". The post office has been in operation at Menahga since 1891. In the heart of Menahga sits the beautiful Spirit Lake, complete with a pier and sugar sand beach. During the summer months, free concerts are held by the lake.
